Christopher Nicolls has a brain tumor, and it is inoperable. Those words made the world stop revolving for a moment and our hearts filled with grief. The original feeling is one of disbelief when a loved one shares such news.
However, Chris and Sara looked directly into the eyes of his illness and dared it to interfere with God’s plans for their life - and they had big plans. Following his posts on Facebook provided inspiration, and he never gave up because he knew with God’s support, he would overcome.
This day 1 year ago is one that Sarah and I will never forget. As we sat and waited in a doctor’s office, simply wondering why my hand and arm wasn’t working, the doctor walked in with some news far different then we could ever imagine. It truly smacked us in the face. “You have a giant mass on your brain, and you need to get checked out soon.” We went to our first professional and he was quick to say I have 3 months to 5 years at the max. Fortunately after going to a professional in Seattle they found a very rare genetic miracle, a gene that makes 5 years into a possible 20+ years. Fast forward a year since, I’m thankful for life, the love of my life Sarah, my precious family, and my amazing friends who support me constantly. Without God I’d be angry, depressed, and truly lost. Fortunately, we have a Savior, Jesus Christ who loves us and brings us through the darkest times, fortunately we are created new every day, and fortunately I’m here today to tell you Jesus Christ is real, and He loves you. Don’t take this life for granted. He loves you! He loves you! He loves you!
And with that said, Happy 1 year Anniversary!
Sure, there were setbacks throughout the following years, but Chris never stopped praising God for the gifts he gave instead of blaming God for the trials.
Yesterday was a great day in two aspects. #1 I finally got to take my dad out golfing for his birthday.....a few months late. #2 I WENT GOLFING!!!! This is a big deal for me as it was a huge goal for me, it’s something I loved to do before cancer, and losing all the strength in my hand and arm made that what I thought was impossible. After a ton of encouragement and physical therapy, I met one of my big goals! (And I actually played well).
It would be easy to elaborate on the trials but instead, Chris’ Facebook page provided updates with positivity reminding his friends, family - followers, that with Christ, anything is possible.
Happy 2 years!!
Thank you, Jesus! Another year of being alive! God has given me so much to be thankful for these last 2 years. Thanks to my friends, family, and beautiful wife. Today is another day on this earth, I cherish each day, but I’m even more excited for the eternal life I have inherited through Jesus Christ.
I’m also thankful for being 1 year seizure free, lost almost 50lbs, and in that time cut down to only 1 medication. If you’ve ever been a part of a cancer walk 1 medication is amazing. Jesus is our healer.
Chris and Sara might have decided not to have a baby because of Chris’ prognosis but that would have showed a lack of faith and stolen a dream they both shared. Chris, Sara, and Zeke plan to move into their forever home in a couple weeks. They know life will throw trials and tribulations into their path but those can be overcome because of their faith.
No matter where you draw your faith and strength, know that you can overcome challenges.
